Justin R. Olsen
Professional
Following his first year of law school, Justin worked in-house for a large trucking company that operated 600 trucks nationwide. Having developed a tremendous interest in this area, Justin tailored a substantial portion of his legal education to the needs of the trucking industry. Justin continued working for this trucking company following graduation from law school and admission to the Utah State Bar. After a few years, he accepted another in-house position for another nationwide trucking company that operated approximately 1200 trucks.
In June of 1994, Justin opened his own law practice focusing in the areas of transportation law, transactional work, and construction law. In January of 2002, Justin, along with long-time friends and law school class-mates Jeff Skoubye and David Nielson founded Olsen Skoubye & Nielson, LLC.
Justin continues to practice primarily in the transportation, construction, and collection law arenas. While much of his practice involves commercial litigation, Justin also does a substantial amount of work in business organizations. Justin’s transportation practice extends beyond representing trucking companies. He also represents shippers, transportation brokers, finance companies and equipment leasing companies that work within the industry. His construction law practice includes representing construction material suppliers, excavators, fabricators, drafters, general contractors and various types of subcontractors. Justin also does a substantial amount of commercial collections and other litigation. Business organizations and transactional work round-out Justin’s areas of practice.
Justin is a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association ("TLA") and Transportation Intermediaries Association ("TIA"). He is also a member of the Construction law, Collections law, and ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolutions) Sections of the Utah State Bar. Justin has been named as one of Utah's Legal Elite Lawyers in the area of Business Litigation by Utah Business Magazine.
Education
Justin attended Utah State University on athletic and leadership scholarships. As a member of the Aggie football team, Justin earned Scholastic All-American honors and other academic honors. Following graduation from Utah State University, Justin attended J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. While is law school, Justin served as a lead editor of the BYU Journal of Public Law, was honored with the “best brief” award in the First-Year Moot Court Competition, and received several other academic awards. He graduated in 1991 with his Juris Doctorate Degree and was admitted to the Utah State Bar later that year.
Personal and Family
Justin was raised on a dairy farm in Heber City, Utah, where he attended and graduated from Wasatch High School in 1983. Justin and his wife Julie have four children. He enjoys sports, camping, coaching youth sports, and working with youth in his church organization and the Boy Scouts of America.
